Bollywood Directorial Debuts 2011

Bollywood
More than 100 Bollywood films released this year and 3 of them crossed the huge 100 crore plus mark.Films like BodyguardReady, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Singham, Delhi Belly, Murder2, Ra.OneThe Dirty Picture were huge hits worldwide. The recently released SRK movie Don2 is also doing great business.

The total net collections of the top 10 Bollywood films of 2011 is estimated at Rs.900 crore approx. However, the year hasn't ended yet and that means those figures are surely going to be much higher. We enjoyed some really different kind of movies this year, some artistic and some bold attempts. This year also saw some Bollywood directorial debuts as listed below.

1. Kiran Rao (Dhobi Ghat)
Everyone knows who she is.The equally talented wife of Mr.Perfectionist Aamir Khan debuted with this artistic drama based on Mumbai. The movie was not a commercial hit, but keeping the small budget of 10 crore in mind it did quite good business for a film in it's category. It almost doubled the money invested for making it.If you haven't seen it yet, I specially recommend watching 'DHOBI GHAT'.

2. Abhinay Deo (Game, Delhi Belly)
An advertising professional who made his debut early 2011 with Abhishek Bachchan starrer 'GAME'.The movie wasn't that impressive and was ignored. He again returned with Aamir Khan productions Imran Khan starrer 'DELHI BELLY', an adult comedy which was not only noticed, but also did really impressive business worldwide and was declared a clear winner.

3. Luv Ranjan (Pyaar Ka Punchnama)
We call it the viral hit and there's a reason behind that. The day the very first trailer of this film released, it went viral via social networks. The youth loved it and that was enough to get people to come and watch it in theaters. The film was well appreciated and was a hit.Right now he is planning a sequel to the film.

4. Amol Gupte (Stanley Ka Dabba)
You first saw him in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Kaminey', his character Bhope Bhau was well appreciated in that film.He again returned with his directorial debut 'STANLEY KA DABBA', featuring his son Partho in the lead. The film won many awards in India and abroad. He is currently working on his next script.

5. Pankaj Kapur (Mausam)
There's no doubt about the popularity of Pankaj Kapur as an actor. This year he debuted as a director with 'MAUSAM', featuring his son and Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor as lead actor and Sonam Kapoor as lead actress. The film started well with housefull theaters, but soon failed to attract public and was declared a flop.

6. Remo D'Souza (F.A.L.T.U)
The very well known Bollywood Choreographer Remo D'Souza tried his hands at directing. There were no big stars in the film, but the film was a surprise hit.Remo's first film as a director got an excellent response from the youth. The dance number 'Chaar baj gaye lekin party abhi baki hai' from this film was a huge huge hit.

7. Rohit Dhawan (Desi Boyz)
His father is a famous Bollywood Director...any guess?Yes you got it right, it's David Dhawan's son Rohit Dhawan's directorial debut with the recently released Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer Desi Boyz..Even if he got big stars and nice music, Rohit somehow couldn't make it as big as his father.Initially after the release the film did a good business because of the promotional hype, but soon loosed the grip and was declared a flop.

So that's the list of big Bollywood Directorial Debuts of 2011.So which one of the above films you watched and which one you missed??Which one is your favourite?
