Shammi Kapoor Passes Away

India was celebrating it's 65th Independence Day and at the same time the last rituals of a legend were performed. It was the end of an era when legendry actor Shammi Kapoor breathed his last on 14th August 2011, Sunday morning at 5.15am.Shammi ji was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai on 7th August 2011 suffering from chronic renal failure and was on ventilator support.His last rituals were performed Monday 15th August in Mumbai.Whole film industry rushed to the Kapoor's Malabar Hill residence to pay their last homage to the 79 Year old actor.

Brother of Bollywood showman late Raj Kapoor ji ,Shammi Kapoor was one of the finest actor of hindi cinema.His real full name was Shamsher Raj Kapoor.He was given the name Shamsher Raj Kapoor at his birth in Mumbai to film and theatre actor Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Mehra.Shammi was the second of the three sons born to Prithviraj Kapoor(the other two being Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor), both successful Bollywood actors.Born October 21st 1931, Shammi Kapoor was one of the leading stars of Hindi cinema during 1950s and 1960s.He made his debut in 1953 with the film 'Jeevan Jyoti'.His first hit film was late 1950s "Tumsa Nahi Dekha".After that he gave many hits like 'Dil Deke Dekho', 'Junglee', 'Dil Tera Deewana', 'Professor', 'China Town', 'Rajkumar', 'Kashmir Ki Kali' and many more.He received Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968 for 'Brahmachari'.Hailed as 'Elvis Presley of India' Shammi Kapoor was famous for his upbeat dance numbers like 'Suku Suku', 'O Haseena Zulfo Wali', 'Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche', 'Aaja Aaja Main Hoon Pyar Tera' where he was at his best.He recently shot a few scenes alongside his great-nephew Ranbir Kapoor for the to-be-released film 'Rockstar'.This is a great loss for the hindi film industry and the country.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "Shammi Kapoor ji passed away this morning at 5:15 am .. Rushing there now .. the flamboyance and joie de verve of the Industry lost !"

"Shammi ji ... An entire life full of optimism and happy spirit, caring loving to all ... Now suddenly silent," added Amitabh Bachchan.
